The Kemptville Advance

The Kemptville Advance has undergone many changes in its 153 year history.

The paper was started in 1855 and was housed at 206 Prescott Street until March 2008 when staff moved to their new home down the street at 113 Prescott Street taking with them the small town values of a community newspaper.

Garnet Crawford, who worked at the paper starting at the age of 12, was the owner from 1965 to 1985 when he sold it to his son Brian and his wife Ann Marie.

Brian was the owner until he sold the paper to Runge Newspapers in 2003.

It was a new era for the paper. It went from a broadsheet to a tabloid style, from being pasted up to paginated on computer and from a monthly Accent magazine to the weekly Kemptville Weekender.

In October 2005, Metroland, a division of Torstar, purchased the paper.

Earlier this year, in an effort to serve our customers better, focus groups were held and the Kemptville Advance and Kemptville Weekender underwent redesigns in June.

Not only did the Kemptville Weekender get redesigned it got a new name as well, now being called the Advance Weekender.

Today, circulation at the Kemptville Advance, which costs one dollar on newsstands and is available by subscription, is 2,400. The paper is published every Wednesday.

The Advance Weekender has a free distribution of 9,883.
